FAITH - NORTHERN MONK

Northern Monk offer a fantastic online shop and the service I received was excellent. The beer was delivered on time and even included a personalised handwritten message which was a touch of class. Dubbed as a ‘modern pale ale’ I was keen to give it a go having thoroughly enjoyed some of these unrefined beers of late. The cans themselves are very striking and reference the historic importance of fire, beer and Monks in building civilisations. This little storytelling helped set the scene whilst sitting around the fire. On opening I was hit by strong fruity aromas and the beer was hazy/straw pale in colour with a small white head. The level of carbonation appeared greater than it actually tasted, with a light/thin carbonation working well giving the beer a fresh feeling. Most prominent flavours were tropical, notably grapefruit/lemon/citra which combined well with a notable smooth dry bitterness at the end. Even though the beer was packed full of flavour the level of sweetness wasn’t too much. I will certainly purchase again.
