CAMDEN PALE ALE - CAMDEN TOWN BREWERY

This was a surprise addition in the weekly shop. Not a beer I’d usually buy but whilst waiting for lots of beer deliveries to arrive from various breweries I thought I’d give this slightly more commercial beer a quick review. The information on the can itself explained that this was the Camden Town Breweries take on an American Pale Ale from the USA intended to produce a more subtle beer more suited to the UK. An interesting idea and I was keen to give it a go. On opening, there was a strong presence of hops, definitely citra hops and tropical sweet aromas and the ale itself had a light golden colouration (almost clear). On pouring it had a small white head and was strongly carbonated. The taste itself was dominated by citra hops, sweet tropical flavours (grapefruit) that combined well with a nice pleasant smooth bitterness. The information on the can notes the impressive mixture of hops and malts within the recipe and I must say the combination produced a nice blend of tropical flavours and a moderate bitterness. Described by the brewery as a toned down ‘less shouty’ American Pale Ale, I found the beer to be very nice, easy to drink (especially if you like citra/hop flavours) that left me with a warm feeling inside. A welcomed surprised I hadn’t expected.
